Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

The Savannah Review is an academic, refereed journal, published twice a year by the Kwara State University Press. Six types of contributions are considered for publication in this journal: major research article reporting findings of original research; review essay synthesising important deliberations related to disciplines within the domain of literary discourse; fiction describing imaginary events and people; poetry using aesthetic and rhythmic qualities of language to impress and evoke meanings; book review; and tribute.

The manuscript submitted to The Savannah Review should not have been published elsewhere, and should not be under consideration by other publications. This must be stated in the covering letter.

  1. Major research article and review essay should be 5,000-8,000 words; fiction and poetry should be 2,000-4,000 words; while book review and tribute should be 1,000-2,000.
  2. Manuscripts should be double-spaced with a 1-inch (2.5 cm) margins. Use 12-point Times New Roman font.
  3. Manuscripts should adhere to the Modern Language Association (MLA) style.
  4. The title should be as concise as possible and should appear on a separate sheet together with name(s) of the author(s), affiliation(s), and the complete postal address of the institute(s).
  5. Headings and sub-headings of different sections should be clearly indicated.
  6. References should be alphabetically ordered.
