The KWASU Journal of Humanities is committed to upholding the highest standards of ethical conduct in all aspects of the publication process. The journal adheres to internationally accepted principles of integrity, transparency, and accountability in scholarly publishing. All parties involved—editors, reviewers, and authors—are expected to observe ethical standards that promote trust in academic communication.
1. Editorial Responsibilities
-
The Editorial Board ensures that all manuscripts submitted to the KWASU Journal of Humanities undergo a fair, unbiased, and confidential peer-review process based on academic merit alone.
-
Editors are responsible for making publication decisions in line with the journal’s editorial policy and the advice of reviewers, without discrimination on grounds of race, gender, religion, institutional affiliation, or political beliefs.
-
Editors must not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, or other editorial staff as appropriate.
-
The editorial team will take reasonable steps to identify and prevent the publication of papers where research misconduct has occurred, including plagiarism, data fabrication, or falsification.
2. Reviewer Responsibilities
-
Peer reviewers assist the Editorial Board in making publication decisions and are expected to maintain strict confidentiality regarding submitted manuscripts.
-
Reviews should be objective, constructive, and focused on improving the quality of the work.
-
Reviewers must disclose any potential conflict of interest and recuse themselves from evaluating manuscripts in which such conflicts exist.
-
Reviewers are expected to report any ethical or academic concern observed in a submission, such as similarity to other published work or suspected plagiarism.
3. Author Responsibilities
-
Authors must ensure that their submissions are original works that have not been published elsewhere and are not under consideration by any other journal.
-
Proper acknowledgment of all sources must be made, and permissions obtained for the use of copyrighted material.
-
All authors should have significantly contributed to the research and approve the final version of the manuscript for publication.
-
Authors are required to disclose any financial or personal relationships that might influence their work.
-
In cases of discovered errors or inaccuracies after publication, authors should promptly notify the editor and cooperate in issuing corrections or retractions when necessary.
4. Plagiarism and Research Misconduct
-
The KWASU Journal of Humanities maintains a strict policy against plagiarism and research misconduct.
-
All submitted manuscripts are subject to plagiarism screening before the review process.
-
Any manuscript found to contain plagiarized material or fraudulent data will be rejected, and authors may be barred from future submissions.
5. Transparency and Corrections
-
The journal ensures that necessary corrections, clarifications, or retractions are published promptly when significant errors are discovered.
-
Retractions will be issued in cases of proven misconduct or unethical publication behavior.
6. Conflict of Interest
-
All participants in the publication process must disclose any conflicts of interest that could influence the interpretation of results or editorial decisions.
Peer Review Policy
The KWASU Journal of Humanities employs a double-blind peer review process to ensure the integrity, objectivity, and quality of all published works. Both the reviewers and the authors remain anonymous throughout the review process to promote fairness and impartial evaluation.
1. Initial Screening
Upon submission, each manuscript is first evaluated by the Editorial Board to determine its relevance to the journal’s scope, quality of expression, originality, and adherence to submission guidelines. Manuscripts that meet these criteria are then sent for external peer review.
2. Review Process
-
Each manuscript is typically reviewed by two qualified experts in the relevant field.
-
Reviewers are selected based on their expertise, research background, and absence of conflicts of interest with the authors.
-
The review process generally takes six to eight weeks, although this may vary depending on reviewer availability and manuscript complexity.
-
Reviewers are required to provide constructive feedback aimed at improving the scholarly quality of the work, evaluating it on criteria such as originality, methodological rigor, clarity, significance of contribution, and accuracy of references.
3. Reviewer Recommendations
Following evaluation, reviewers may recommend one of the following outcomes:
-
Accept for publication as submitted;
-
Accept with minor revisions;
-
Request major revisions and resubmission; or
-
Reject, with justification.
The final decision on publication rests solely with the Editor-in-Chief, who considers the reviewers’ reports and the overall suitability of the manuscript for the journal.
4. Revision and Resubmission
Authors invited to revise their manuscripts must address reviewers’ comments thoroughly and resubmit within the specified time frame. The revised version may be sent to the original reviewers for verification of changes, at the discretion of the Editorial Board.
5. Confidentiality and Ethics in Review
All manuscripts are treated as confidential documents. Reviewers and editors must not disclose, share, or use any information from an unpublished manuscript for personal or professional advantage.
6. Appeals and Complaints
Authors who wish to appeal editorial decisions or raise concerns about the review process may contact the Editor-in-Chief in writing, clearly stating their case. The Editorial Board will review all appeals in line with the journal’s ethical guidelines and respond accordingly.
