Impact of Parent Teacher Association on Students' Academic Performance in Post Basic Schools in Adamawa State, Nigeria

The study investigated the impact of PTA on students’ academic performance in Post Basic Schools Adamawa State, Nigeria. Study adopted ex-post factor research design. Three research questions were raised and three hypotheses were formulated in the study. Population consists of 6,353 academic personnel (619 school administrators and 5,734 teachers). Random sampling was 361 respondents selected using multistage. Structured questionnaire: “Impact of Parent Teachers’ Association Questionnaire (IPTAQ)” and pro-forma: Students’ Academic Achievement Pro-forma (SAAP) were used as instruments for data collection. Instruments validated with IPTAQ pilot tested using Cronbach’s Alpha 0.89. Data collected were analysed using mean, standard deviation, and linear regression. Findings, PTA roles (3.36) academic performance (2.86) is at moderate level and has significant impact. In conclusions PTA roles (in maintaining students’ discipline) significantly impact students’ academic performance. It recommends that State Government should encourage PTAs to expand their efforts in fundraising and resource mobilization in all Post Basic Schools across the State.
