Abstract

The study examined the roles of NCCE in ensuring educational quality in colleges of education in Ilorin   metropolis, Kwara State. The study further examined the role of NCCE on programmes accreditation and quality assurance control in ensuring educational quality in Colleges of Education in Ilorin metropolis, Kwara State. However, two research questions were raised which are in line with the research hypotheses formulated. The population comprised of 1,230 staff of colleges of education in Ilorin metropolis and the sample size of 287 respondents was determined using Research Advisors (2006). The purposive sampling technique was adopted to select the following respondents: Provost; Director, Academic Planning Unit; HODs; Registrar; Dean; Course Coordinators; Admission Officer; Lecturers; and the librarian. Researchers’ designed instrument was used for data collection and was validated by two experts. Cronbach Alpha statistics was used to determine the reliability coefficient of the instrument at the value of 0.66, which was considered adequate for the study. The statistics of mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions raised in the study, while Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) statistics was used to test the formulated hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study revealed that programmes of the colleges of Education in Ilorin metropolis were accredited by NCCE and quality assurance control is strictly monitored. It was therefore, concluded that there was a significant relationship on the roles of NCCE in ensuring educational quality in colleges of education in Ilorin metropolis, Kwara State. It was recommended that NCCE should strengthen its monitoring strategies on Colleges of Education to maintain standards in the system, among others.
